Position OverviewJoin a mission-driven organization as a Professional Surgical Coding Specialist III, working fully remote to support accurate surgical coding and billing integrity. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance, precise charge documentation, and efficient revenue cycle processes across specialized clinical areas, particularly Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with clinical teams and specialty departments to assign, verify, and submit surgical codes in a timely manner
- Ensure adherence to coding standards using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines
- Apply knowledge of CCI edits, payer policies, and regulatory requirements to support compliant billing practices
- Collaborate with providers and staff to resolve coding discrepancies and clarify documentation needs
- Maintain complete and accurate charge capture across electronic health record systems
Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate a strong foundation in surgical coding and healthcare compliance.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on surgical coding experience in a healthcare setting
- Validated certification: CPC, CCS-P, CCS-C, or RHIT from AAPC or AHIMA
- Proven understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding frameworks
- Familiarity with CCI edits, insurance guidelines, and federal and state regulations
- Experience with Electronic Health Records; Epic proficiency is preferred
- High School Diploma, GED, or HSED required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously, apply critical thinking, and manage complex coding scenarios
Work Environment
