The Archdiocese of St. Louis, inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, seeks a Certified Medical Technician for our CRSS Skilled Nursing Communities. Our mission is to provide person-centered care through quality residential, healthcare, and supportive social services for senior adults. In this role, you will function as a Certified Medication Technician (CMT), administering and documenting medications by all routes except for intramuscular and subcutaneous injections (with the exception of insulin), while assisting residents with activities of daily living and maintaining a safe, clean environment.
What You'll Do
- Prepare, administer, and record medications by all routes except the parenteral route.
- Observe, evaluate, report, and record resident responses to medications.
- Relate side effects, interactions, and nursing implications of medications.
- Identify responsibilities associated with the control and storage of medications.
- Utilize appropriate reference materials.
- Identify what constitutes a medication error and notify the nurse of any errors.
- Safeguard the medication preparation and storage area.
- Reorder and remove unused medications according to policy, notifying the nurse of needs for controlled medication reorders, missing medications, etc.
- Handle requisition and credit of medications, pulling stat labels for reorder.
- Administer oxygen by nasal cannula.
- Monitor and assist with Resident Call Lights.
- Report to the nurse at the beginning of the shift to receive assignment and report.
- Report and record immediately any untoward or therapeutic effects of medications.
- Maintain an accurate account of controlled substances.
- Account for medication keys by signing for them at the beginning of the shift.
- Account for controlled medications by counting and signing off with the incoming shift.
- Administer specified treatments and record them.
- Receive medications from the pharmacy upon delivery, checking contents against the receipt and signing for medications (except controlled medications).
- Participate in the monthly medication exchange.
- Perform and record vital signs as ordered by the physician or requested by the RN or LPN.
- Pass nourishments in a timely manner according to policy.
- Report observations to the RN or LPN to assist with the nursing care plan.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control policies at all times to maintain a safe, clean environment.
- Attend staff meetings and in-services as assigned.
- Be knowledgeable of fire and disaster procedures and function as directed.
- Check weekly for resident name bands and proper working of code alert bracelets.
- (Day shift) Record weights and vital signs in the resident’s chart.
- Assist the RN or LPN as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be responsible for the care, safety, and wellbeing of the residents.
- Utilize supplies and other assets in a prudent manner.
What We're Looking For
- Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing in the state of Missouri.
- Must have successfully completed the state of Missouri's Certified Medication Technician training program and be in good standing.
- Must have successfully completed or be willing to complete the Insulin Administration Program within three months of hire.
- Must have current CPR certification or be willing to become CPR certified.
- Ability to maintain all certifications required for employment qualifications.
- Able to perform duties with minimal direction from the Director of Nursing.
- Electronic Health Record literate.
- Must have good interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be genuinely interested in working with senior adults.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality, loyalty, integrity, dignity, and be tactful and patient.
- Must possess personal qualities that demonstrate the ability to care for others, such as sensitivity, patience, honesty, cheerfulness, willingness, reliability, positive attitude, and observation skills.
- Must have initiative and use good judgment in recognizing symptoms indicative of a resident’s change in condition.
- Must be neat and clean in personal appearance and grooming.
- Must be in good physical and emotional health.
- Must be able to perform the physical and mental functions/requirements of the position.
Team & Environment
You will report directly to the Director of Nursing and work as part of the skilled nursing team.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position.
