The Caseworker (for Older Refugees) at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides trauma-informed and aging-sensitive case management services to support older refugees and qualified immigrants in overcoming barriers such as chronic health conditions, limited English proficiency, social isolation, and unfamiliarity with U.S. systems. The role empowers clients through culturally responsive support to achieve self-defined goals and long-term integration.
What You'll Do
- Conduct culturally and linguistically appropriate intakes for older refugee clients, assessing needs across health, housing, income, legal status, and social support.
- Develop individualized service plans with measurable goals (e.g., applying for SSI, Medicaid enrollment, naturalization). Review and update plans regularly.
- Provide direct support in accessing benefits, healthcare, housing, legal aid, and mental health resources; assist with documentation and accompany clients to appointments when needed.
- Deliver services using trauma-informed and aging-sensitive approaches that respect client pace, preferences, and dignity.
- Ensure language and communication access by using interpreters, translated materials, and plain-language tools.
- Provide transportation support through bus passes, volunteer drivers, or home visits; help clients navigate local systems.
- Conduct regular follow-ups to monitor client progress, adjusting service plans as needed; maintain accurate, detailed case notes in data systems.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations and ethnic groups; conduct outreach to inform clients and partners of available services.
- Contribute to program compliance and reporting, including donor and internal documentation; support preparation of funding proposals when requested.
- Participate actively in team meetings, trainings, and professional development; adhere to IRC policies including safeguarding and confidentiality.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field strongly preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- At least 2 years of case management experience in a social services environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; detail-oriented.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a cross-cultural, multidisciplinary team.
- Problem-solving skills; able to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Proficiency in English required.
- Valid driver’s license, active insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Must possess or be eligible for a fingerprint clearance card per Arizona state law.
Nice to Have
- Experience serving vulnerable or older populations preferred.
- Public speaking or presentation skills preferred.
- Bilingual ability in Spanish, Dari, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, French, or other refugee/immigrant languages strongly preferred.
