The Associate Director, Teaching and Learning plays a central role in shaping high-impact educational resources and training systems for children in underserved communities. Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning, this position contributes to the design and refinement of structured pedagogy materials that build foundational literacy and numeracy skills. You will collaborate closely with country teams and the Impact team to ensure teaching tools reflect current research, are accessible to diverse learners, and support community educators with varying levels of experience.
What You'll Do
- Develop and refine teacher guides, student books, and supplementary learning materials grounded in the science of reading and numeracy development.
- Ensure content is inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible to learners who face language barriers or learning differences.
- Design materials with clarity and usability in mind, tailored for educators with varied literacy levels and teaching backgrounds.
- Integrate principles of gender equity and socio-emotional learning into curricula and training resources.
- Support the creation of training modules for both trainers and teachers, ensuring consistency and pedagogical strength.
- Lead or assist in delivering training sessions and provide ongoing coaching to program teams.
- Monitor implementation, assess challenges, and develop practical solutions in complex or evolving contexts.
- Manage formatting, layout, and illustration standards to maintain professional, engaging materials.
- Take initiative in identifying gaps and driving improvements across teaching and learning initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in education, international development, or nonprofit programming.
- Deep understanding of foundational learning, structured pedagogy, and literacy acquisition, including phonics and number sense development.
- Proven experience in curriculum design, material development, and assessment validation.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality outputs.
- Experience improving learning outcomes through evidence-based literacy programs.
- Ability to guide and elevate the work of others to meet rigorous pedagogical and design standards.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a track record of delivering complex projects on schedule.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and conceptual abilities.
- Proficient in spoken and written English, with strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including document formatting in Word, data analysis in Excel, and professional presentation design in PowerPoint.
- At least three years of experience in structured pedagogy programs is strongly preferred.
