Position Overview
An established organization is seeking a qualified attorney to handle first-party insurance defense matters in Texas state courts. The successful candidate will play a central role in managing litigation from initiation through resolution, including trial when necessary. This position requires strong legal analysis, courtroom experience, and the ability to work independently while supporting broader claims strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research and draft memoranda, motions, and appellate briefs
- Provide guidance on liability assessments, damages, and case valuation at the request of claims teams
- Prepare and file responsive pleadings, discovery requests, and motions
- Take and defend depositions and conduct examinations under oath
- Represent the organization at hearings, mediations, and trials as needed
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Juris Doctor degree and be licensed to practice law in Texas in good standing. A minimum of 2–6 years of litigation experience—particularly in insurance defense, personal injury, or civil litigation—is required. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple cases efficiently, and able to interpret complex procedural rules and insurance policies.
- Active membership in the Texas Bar and compliance with CLE requirements
- Ability to travel for depositions, hearings, and internal meetings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in legal documentation and case file management
- Experience with conflict resolution and applying technical legal standards
Work Environment & Benefits
This role is based in Houston, TX, with flexibility to work remotely within commuting distance. Compensation ranges from $112,750 to $175,275 annually, with additional incentives based on performance.
