This role focuses on managing moderately complex to highly complex commercial claims involving bodily injury and property damage. The Senior Claims Specialist conducts thorough investigations by engaging with claimants, witnesses, and insured parties, while preserving evidence and maintaining proper documentation protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead claim investigations, assess liability, and confirm policy coverage to determine compensability
- Evaluate damages, set and adjust reserves, and negotiate settlements within delegated authority
- Engage third-party experts such as independent adjusters, medical examiners, and forensic specialists when necessary
- Coordinate with legal teams and manage litigation processes, including participation in mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Support subrogation efforts and refer suspicious claims to specialized investigative units
- Mentor junior staff, provide technical guidance, and contribute to team problem-solving
- Participate in quality assurance reviews, closed file audits, and internal case evaluations
- Stay current with changes in insurance regulations, tort law, and claims practices
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent training combined with 3–5 years of relevant claims experience. Strong interpersonal and negotiation abilities are essential, along with a solid understanding of insurance policy language, legal liability principles, and state-specific tort rules. Successful candidates will demonstrate effective time management, leadership potential, and the ability to work independently.
A commitment to ongoing professional development is expected, including obtaining and maintaining required licenses. Attendance at a mandatory one-week in-person training session in Plano, TX in July 2026 is required.
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid model for candidates near Hoffman Estates, IL, or Indianapolis, IN, requiring office presence twice per month. Remote work is fully supported for those residing in Ohio, Montana, Virginia, and Minnesota. Workplace policies may evolve to meet business needs.
