The City of New York’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is hiring an Assistant Planner within its Economic Development & Regional Planning Division. In this role, you will contribute to research and policy development on issues affecting the city and regional economy, supporting the creation of neighborhood and citywide planning proposals.
What You'll Do
- Conduct quantitative research on economic topics, such as industrial sector health and storefront vacancy trends.
- Conduct qualitative research on business typologies and challenges via desktop analysis, stakeholder outreach, and field visits.
- Produce PowerPoint presentations with summary insights, graphics, and data visualizations for internal and external audiences.
- Represent the division and department at internal and external meetings, preparing for meetings and providing summary notes.
- Serve as project support on ongoing neighborhood studies, including producing neighborhood economic assessments and participating in policy development.
- Maintain, manage, process, and analyze databases that inform the agency’s economic work studies.
- Provide direct feedback on work programs to the Director and Deputy Director.
What We're Looking For
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning.
- A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above. Graduate education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development, or related fields may substitute for experience (30 graduate semester credits = 1 year of experience). All candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.
- Authorization to work in the United States. This role does not offer sponsorship.

You will report directly to the Director and Deputy Director of the Economic Development & Regional Planning Division.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: USD64,157 - USD73,780.
