Stanford Health Care was looking for an APP - Physician Assistant I - Orthopedics OPC - Full Time (Day - 08 hrs)

Stanford Health Care is hiring a Physician Assistant to join our inpatient Orthopedics team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive care for pre- and post-surgical inpatients on the ortho trauma service, performing floor management and coordinating care within a collaborative, hospital-based setting.

What You'll Do

  • Provide comprehensive care for pre- and post-surgical inpatients across the ortho trauma service.
  • Perform floor management including daily patient assessments, coordinating care plans, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Lead and document admissions, discharges, and transition-of-care planning.
  • Work closely with attending surgeons, residents, and nursing staff to deliver seamless, high-quality inpatient care.
  • Help drive patient outcomes and contribute to a team committed to continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate and treat patients with acute, chronic complaints and health maintenance concerns.
  • Obtain complete histories and perform pertinent physical exams.
  • Perform or request and evaluate diagnostic studies as indicated.
  • Order or furnish medications under physician supervision.
  • Order and collect specimens for laboratory tests and therapeutic procedures.
  • Order physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology exams, and nursing services.
  • Perform designated procedures after demonstrated competency.
  • Obtain informed consent as indicated.
  • Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges.
  • Enroll patients in investigational studies as directed and order necessary tests and medications.
  • After appropriate training, assist the supervising physician in the operating room.
  • Act as first or second assistant under the supervision of an approved supervising physician.
  • Perform surgical procedures in the personal presence of the supervising physician.
  • Recognize and consider age-specific needs of patients.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Recognize situations which require the immediate attention of a physician and initiate life-saving procedures when necessary.
  • Facilitate the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services.
  • Facilitate collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide and coordinate patient teaching and counseling.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited university (PAs hired prior to July 1, 2012 are exempt).
  • Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
  • PA - Physician Assistant State Licensure.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support certification.
  • DEA - Drug Enforcement Administration registration.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ortho trauma through fellowship, clerkship, or hands-on clinical experience.
  • Strong background in inpatient care, ideally within orthopedic surgery or ortho trauma.
  • Proven ability to manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining clinical accuracy and compassion.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Team & Environment

You'll join a collaborative team of 53 experienced APPs and 60 orthopedic surgeons, supporting 11 specialized service lines within a structured, high-functioning clinical environment focused on providing excellent patient care and empowering APPs to practice at the top of their license.

  • Compensation generally starting at $89.01 - $117.94 per hour.
  • Monday–Friday daytime schedule with 8-hour shifts.
