Join a mission-driven communications team as a Writer/Editor, shaping accessible, high-impact content that advances global environmental understanding. You'll work across research and editorial functions to refine complex ideas into clear, engaging narratives for WRI.org and related platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate content proposals from regional and program teams, offering strategic direction to align with organizational goals.
  • Perform in-depth editing of technical and research-based writing, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and audience relevance across formats such as insights, project briefs, and web pages.
  • Draft original content including articles, web copy, newsletters, and multimedia scripts that reflect institutional priorities.
  • Collaborate with designers and video producers to develop visual storytelling that complements written work.
  • Source images and write descriptive captions to enhance editorial pieces.
  • Manage editorial workflows from concept to publication, coordinating input from multiple stakeholders.
  • Ghostwrite thought leadership content for researchers and senior staff, capturing voice and intent.
  • Monitor performance metrics to assess content effectiveness and guide future development.
  • Apply SEO principles and digital publishing best practices to extend content reach.
  • Stay informed on current events and institutional developments to identify timely storytelling opportunities.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with professional experience in writing and editing. Fluency in English—both written and spoken—is essential. Candidates must be authorized to work in one of the listed countries and reside there at the time of hire.

Preferred candidates will have journalism experience, a background in coaching writers, familiarity with SEO, and a demonstrated interest in environmental topics such as climate change, sustainable cities, food systems, and clean energy. Experience working across diverse cultural and geographic contexts is highly valued.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in AP Style, digital publishing platforms, content analytics tools, and SEO practices is expected.

Work Environment

This role operates under a hybrid model, requiring presence in the office for at least eight days per month. Locations include The Hague, London, Bogotá, New Delhi, Mexico City, Nairobi, and Addis Ababa. You’ll collaborate with a values-driven team committed to integrity, impact, partnership, and care.

Compensation & Development

Salary ranges from 45,000–56,000 GBP in the UK and 53,000–66,000 EUR in The Hague, scaled to experience. The position offers opportunities for professional growth through mentorship and engagement with global environmental issues.
