About the Role

Spark Advisors is hiring a Press Secretary for the Welcoming Neighbors Network Communications Hub, a new internal agency. In this role, you’ll develop and execute media relations strategy to support pro-housing policy campaigns across the country.

What You'll Do

  • Build local advocates’ media relations skills by organizing trainings and providing ad-hoc coaching.
  • Develop and execute a proactive national press strategy to shape housing policy conversations.
  • Monitor national media coverage, identify pitch opportunities, and provide analysis.
  • Conceptualize and execute high-level media pitches and build a robust network of reporter relationships.
  • Develop and place opinion content.
  • Curate new coverage of pro-housing leaders across broadcast, podcast, and new media channels.
  • Organize and execute press conferences and activations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director and Digital Strategy Manager for messaging alignment.
  • Maintain collaborative partnerships with a diverse range of pro-housing advocates nationwide.
  • Draft and edit press releases, briefing memos, op-eds, and talking points.
  • Conduct rapid-response reporter outreach in local and state media during time-sensitive moments.
  • Maintain knowledge of pro-housing policy developments in target cities and states.
  • Incorporate polling and messaging research into materials and distribute it to media and partners.

  • Strong understanding or willingness to learn housing policy.
  • Extraordinary writing skills and ability to produce high-quality content quickly.
  • Sophisticated understanding of the traditional and new media landscape.
  • Track record of securing national, state, and/or local press coverage of complex issues.
  • Experience managing proactive and rapid-response communications around complex issues.
  • Ability to tailor messaging effectively for audiences across the political spectrum.
  • Dedication to an inclusive, collaborative organization that values outcomes over credit.

  • Strong interpersonal abilities and willingness to work with diverse people and unlikely allies.
  • Passion for effective communication campaigns, with examples of successful approaches.

Nice to Have

  • Four to six years of combined experience in communications advocacy and/or communications for federal or state candidate campaigns or governmental offices.

Team & Environment

You’ll join a small team as part of a new communications hub acting as an internal agency, reporting to the Director of the Welcoming Neighbors Network Communications Hub.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary: $95,000 - $115,000
  • 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families.
