Illinois State University was looking for a Vidette Editor-in-chief

Illinois State University is hiring a Vidette Editor-in-Chief to lead the editorial direction and daily operations of the campus newspaper. The student editor is responsible for all news-editorial aspects, including content, coverage, and presentation across print, web, and social media.

What You'll Do

  • Formulate editorial policy and oversee all news-editorial aspects of the newspaper.
  • Make final publishing decisions on news stories, photographs, editorials, columns, and advertisements.
  • Provide overall staff direction in news, opinion, photography, features, sports, and editing.
  • Manage the web team, web content, and design of videtteonline.com.
  • Manage The Vidette’s social media accounts, newsletter, and mobile application.
  • Select the news-editorial staff and organize it in consultation with the editorial advisor.
  • Act as a liaison with the public and outside sources on news and editorial content.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of The Vidette Publication Board.

What We're Looking For

  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the upcoming Fall 2026 and Spring 2026 semesters.
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing within Illinois State University.
  • Have demonstrated proficiency in news reporting, editing, web content management, and other phases of the daily operation of the campus news organization and its digital platforms.
  • Have a basic understanding of and ability to manage all aspects of the process.

Works in consultation with an editorial advisor and serves as ex-officio member of The Vidette Publication Board.
