Remote (Global) Full-time

Availity is hiring a Vice President of Clinical Software Engineering (Remote)

About the Role

At Availity, we are hiring a Vice President of Clinical Software Engineering to define and drive our clinical technology strategy. Reporting directly to the Chief Data and Engineering Officer, you will establish a clear engineering vision, set execution priorities, and lead the organization through a critical growth phase.

What You'll Do

  • Define and drive a clear engineering vision and execution strategy for the Clinical technology organization.
  • Establish and own a focused, outcome-driven roadmap, prioritizing delivery over process.
  • Lead high-velocity execution, ensuring meaningful customer and business outcomes are delivered consistently.
  • Provide strong architectural leadership, simplifying misaligned systems and eliminating duplicated capabilities.
  • Own technical stewardship of cloud-native (AWS) platforms, ensuring scalability, clarity, and speed.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing engineering leadership team with a strong accountability culture.
  • Evaluate and evolve organizational structure to improve alignment, collaboration, and delivery.
  • Partner closely with Product, Data, and AI leaders to translate strategy into working software.
  • Set and reinforce standards for technical excellence, decision-making, and ownership.
  • Lead through trust, credibility, and results—driving execution in complex, ambiguous environments.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven engineering leadership at scale, leading complex software organizations through change, ambiguity, and growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive execution at high velocity—moving teams from strategy to delivery without over-reliance on process.
  • Strong technical and architectural judgment, with the confidence to challenge teams, reset direction, and simplify overly complex systems.
  • Experience operating in messy, inherited environments, including fragmented platforms, unclear roadmaps, and duplicated capabilities.
  • Track record of building and leading high-performing engineering leaders and teams, while holding a high bar for accountability.
  • Comfort making decisions with incomplete information and calling clear shots on priorities and outcomes.
  • Strong cross-functional partnership skills, especially with Product, Data, and AI leaders, to translate vision into working software.
  • Outcome-driven mindset, using metrics and customer impact—not ceremony—to guide decisions.
  • Experience in healthcare, financial services, or other complex regulated domains.
  • Background in platform, data, or connectivity-focused architectures.
  • Experience leading engineering organizations through complexity, fragmentation, and performance challenges to achieve stronger alignment and delivery.
  • Experience leading and operating cloud-native engineering environments (AWS), with the ability to assess, simplify, and realign architectures at scale.
