About the Role

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) is hiring a Vice President for its Change Management Office. This strategic role is responsible for overseeing and driving key programs and projects, ensuring successful delivery aligned with business goals and mid-term plans.

What You'll Do

  • Plan and define the scope of the overall program and its individual projects
  • Develop detailed project plans, key objectives, milestones, and progress tracking mechanisms
  • Define tasks and required resources, managing team members and subject matter experts
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, resources, and external parties to execute projects
  • Manage and mitigate project risks to deliver on-time, within scope, and budget
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the organization
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Report portfolio status and escalate issues to senior management; arrange regular cadences with management and project committees
  • Manage changes to project scope, timeline, and budget
  • Coordinate dependency management between different projects within the portfolio
  • Participate in global forums to create alignment and standardization with other regions

What We're Looking For

  • A Degree or Master's degree in banking and finance, business administration, or a related field
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in the financial sector, with proven experience leading corporate banking projects
  • Strong experience managing large-scale, front-to-back projects, including business, regulatory, digitalization, and process improvement initiatives
  • Good appreciation of digitalization trends such as big data and AI, particularly within the financial industry
  • Confidence in leading discussions with senior management, building consensus, and influencing change
  • Ability to bridge business needs and technical requirements, translating them into project deliverables and results
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership capabilities
  • Proficiency in the Japanese language is required due to frequent liaison with the Tokyo Head Office

Nice to Have

  • Project management certifications such as PMP and CAPM
  • Process improvement skills and certifications such as Lean Six Sigma or Scrum/Agile methodologies
