The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI America Inc.) is looking for a Civil Law & Asia-Pacific Principal, Senior, or Legal Advisor to serve as an unpaid volunteer. In this role, you will provide expert and strategic legal advice across the organization, focusing on legal obligations, risk minimization, and the intersection of blockchain technology with climate action. You will be part of a volunteer-led think tank dedicated to leveraging emerging technologies to address climate change.
What You'll Do
- Provide strategic advice on corporate, contract, employment, and other legal matters.
- Evaluate multiple inputs and impacts for decisions and courses of action.
- Support the formulation and review of internal governance policies.
- Draft legal opinions, memoranda, and briefing documents.
- Formulate formalities for the settlement of disputes.
- Monitor the implementation of legal clauses.
- Provide legal insights into the use of blockchain in climate action frameworks.
- Advise on legal issues and risks, including governance, fundraising, data protection, intellectual property, and litigation.
What We're Looking For
- Excellent English writing and professional communication skills.
- Proven ability to multitask, prioritize, solve problems, and maintain attention to detail.
- Proficient use of the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
- For Legal Advisor roles: Qualification equivalent to a solicitor/barrister in the UK. Senior requires 3+ years post-qualification experience; Principal requires 7+ years.
- Proven experience in a not-for-profit environment.
- Broad common law knowledge in corporate, contract, employment, or litigation law.
- Ability to develop legal strategy and understand how legal issues affect organizations.
- Experience building constructive stakeholder relationships and driving projects independently and in teams.
Nice to Have
- In-house legal experience.
- Knowledge of climate change, climate finance, or blockchain technology.

Team & Environment
You will work within the Director-General’s Office, specifically the Legal Advisory & Governance Section, reporting directly to the General Counsel.
