Counsel position available for a skilled attorney specializing in first-party insurance defense within Texas jurisdiction. This role centers on managing litigation from inception through resolution, including trial or dispositive motions. The successful candidate will serve as a key legal resource, providing guidance on liability, damages, and case valuation in coordination with claims professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research and draft well-reasoned briefs, memoranda, and advisory opinions
- Prepare and file responsive pleadings, motions, and discovery requests
- Take and defend depositions and examinations under oath
- Represent the organization in court proceedings, including hearings and trials, as required
- Deliver clear, accurate, and timely case assessments to internal stakeholders
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Juris Doctor degree and be admitted to practice law in Texas in good standing. A minimum of 7–9 years of litigation experience in insurance defense or personal injury is required. Candidates must maintain active compliance with Continuing Legal Education requirements and demonstrate strong organizational abilities, sound judgment, and the capacity to manage complex procedural rules.
Experience in civil litigation—particularly within insurance-related matters—is highly preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to interact professionally across departments and external legal settings.
Work Environment
This position supports remote work with a requirement to remain within commuting distance of either San Antonio or Austin, Texas. Eligible employees may take advantage of a flexible work program allowing up to four weeks annually of remote work anywhere in the United States.
