The University of Vienna seeks a PhD student (Universitätsassistent*in Praedoc) for its Strategic Management Chair. In this role, you will conduct research on strategic decision-making and organizational design while supporting the Chair with administrative duties and teaching.
What You'll Do
- Conduct research on strategic decision-making in organizations and related performance implications.
- Focus your research on organizational design in technologically innovative environments.
- Perform administrative tasks for the Strategic Management Chair.
- Teach courses in Strategic Management at all levels.
What We're Looking For
- A completed Master's/Diploma degree (or very near completion) at the time of application.
- Your degree must be from a recognized Management program (e.g., M.Sc. in Business) or a related discipline like Economics, Psychology, Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Enthusiasm for an academic career in the social sciences.
- A record of being among the top graduates (top 10% of your cohort).
- A strong quantitative background.
- Interest in acquiring methodological skills in formal (mathematical) modeling and/or quantitative empirical testing.
- Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
Nice to Have
- A particular interest in the research field of strategy and organizational design.
- Relevant study experience in a (native) English-speaking environment.
- Existing teaching experience.
Team & Environment
You will join the Strategic Management Chair team at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics, a group of approximately 10 people.

- Salary is calculated based on the gross salary for full-time employment (40h/week) in the B1 salary group (€3,776.10 base full-time). For 30h/week, salary is calculated proportionally.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position based in Vienna, Austria.
