About the Role
The Unit Coordinator plays a key administrative role in a specialized inpatient unit, providing front-line support by managing phone communications, coordinating patient documentation, and facilitating smooth interactions between clinical teams, patients, and their families.
Responsibilities
- Answer and direct incoming calls to appropriate staff members
- Maintain accurate patient records and treatment logs
- Schedule appointments and coordinate patient admissions and discharges
- Order and manage office and clinical supplies
- Assist with preparation of reports and clinical documentation
- Serve as first point of contact for family inquiries
- Support unit clerical functions including data entry and filing
- Coordinate communication between nursing staff, physicians, and support services
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations
- Assist in maintaining unit safety and organization
- Track patient forms and consent documentation
- Provide administrative support during clinical team meetings
- Manage fax and email correspondence for the unit
- Update patient status boards and tracking systems
- Assist with onboarding new staff and volunteers
- Maintain calendars for clinical team members
- Support quality improvement initiatives through accurate recordkeeping
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
- Participate in training and departmental meetings
- Respond to internal and external requests promptly and courteously
