The Union Mobile Route Engineer delivers on-site support for the operation, maintenance, and repair of large chiller systems (600 tons and above) across various job sites. This role emphasizes adherence to safety standards, preventative maintenance, and timely resolution of mechanical and electrical issues as part of a field-based engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Operate, service, and repair large chiller systems (600 tons or greater) to maintain optimal performance and reliability in the field.
- Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on mobile chiller units to reduce system failures and prolong equipment life.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults in chiller systems, applying effective repair methods quickly.
- Track and adjust chiller system performance using control software and diagnostic equipment to ensure efficient operation.
- Follow all applicable safety regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies at every worksite.
- Keep accurate and comprehensive records of all maintenance, repairs, and service activities for audit and compliance purposes.
- Respond to after-hours calls and emergencies as part of a rotating on-call schedule to support critical system uptime.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Valid journeyman certification or comparable field experience in mobile engineering roles.
- At least five years of direct experience working on large chiller systems rated at 600 tons or more.
- Universal EPA certification is mandatory.
- Solid knowledge of HVAC fundamentals, chiller mechanics, and control system operations.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical components on-site.

- Completion of a degree program in engineering, HVAC technology, or a related technical discipline.
