Up Education is looking for a Tutor to support learners in building essential literacy and numeracy skills. In this role, you will use engaging, practical, and learner-centred teaching approaches to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages confidence, participation, and personal growth.
What You'll Do
- Deliver engaging literacy and numeracy learning experiences that support diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages confidence, participation, and personal development.
- Teach practical reading and writing skills, including completing forms and writing basic reports.
- Support learners to interpret and use information such as graphs, charts, and simple data.
- Develop learners’ communication skills for everyday and workplace situations.
- Introduce goal-setting strategies that support learner motivation and progress.
- Teach practical numeracy skills including basic budgeting, money management, and understanding banking terms.
- Support learners to manage time effectively using schedules and timetables.
- Guide learners to safely navigate the internet, including email use and online transactions.
- Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback to support ongoing development.
What We're Looking For
- A relevant qualification such as the New Zealand Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (NZCALNE) (Level 5), New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (NZCATT) (Level 4) with literacy and numeracy components, or another recognised adult teaching qualification.
- Experience delivering adult literacy and numeracy programmes.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills and the ability to apply them in practical learning contexts.
- Experience using the Learning Progressions for Adult Literacy and the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT).
- The ability to engage learners and support different learning styles and needs.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively with learners from diverse backgrounds, including Māori and Pacific learners.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective teaching practice.
