Position Overview
A mid-level civil engineer is needed to support transportation infrastructure projects within the Sioux Falls office. This role focuses on design development, interdisciplinary coordination, and project execution under the direction of senior leadership. As responsibilities expand, there will be opportunities to take on greater project ownership and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop engineering plans and technical documents using design software, with a focus on MicroStation InRoads, OpenRoads, or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Create and revise design criteria, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and project reports.
- Coordinate design components such as roadway layout, drainage systems, traffic controls, environmental considerations, and structural elements, with attention to surface modeling.
- Support project scoping, budget development, scheduling, and client communication for municipal and state transportation work.
- Guide designers and technicians in producing accurate construction documentation and provide technical feedback.
- Assist in maintaining quality standards in line with internal procedures and project requirements.
- Mentor junior engineering staff and contribute to team development.
- Respond to construction-phase inquiries, review shop drawings, and support field adjustments when necessary.
- Collaborate with clients to align design outcomes with budget, timeline, and performance goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution.
- Five to ten years of experience in transportation engineering, including roadway, highway, and interchange design.
- Engineer-in-Training (EI) certification required.
- Proficiency in preparing technical reports, cost estimates, and project specifications.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience presenting technical information to stakeholders and responding to inquiries.
- Willingness to travel locally as needed for project tasks.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with MicroStation InRoads, OpenRoads, or AutoCAD Civil 3D, particularly in surface modeling.
- Holding or eligibility for South Dakota Professional Engineer (PE) licensure through reciprocity.

Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary ranges from $80,000 to $98,000, with eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
