Lead transformative travel experiences as a Tour Leader based in Portugal, guiding small groups across Europe with a focus on cultural depth, safety, and sustainability. Your role centers on delivering exceptional service while fostering authentic connections between travelers and the destinations they explore.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary guide, group manager, and local interpreter, ensuring smooth daily operations and high traveler satisfaction.
- Support guest needs proactively, addressing concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Stay informed on local conditions, including travel regulations, health requirements, and cultural developments.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accommodations, dining options, transport networks, and regional pricing.
- Manage reservations for lodging, transit, and activities, adapting plans when necessary while preserving the core itinerary.
- Track daily expenses, retain receipts, and operate within assigned budgets.
- Provide post-trip reports and keep trip documentation current using standardized formats.
- Train new leaders and share on-the-ground insights to improve future tours.
- Identify opportunities for program expansion, new routes, or operational improvements.
- Collaborate with regional and central teams as needed to support broader operations.
Qualifications
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Portuguese, Spanish, French, or Italian is preferred.
- Proven experience in international travel, living abroad, or cross-cultural work environments.
- Demonstrated leadership ability in dynamic, fast-paced settings.
- Strong communication skills and emotional resilience under pressure.
- Commitment to environmentally sound and culturally respectful tourism practices.
- Valid passport and ability to comply with visa and vaccination requirements for European travel.
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification must be held at the start of contract.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet applications.
- Background in personal or professional budgeting is an asset.
Work Environment
This is a contract-based role with assignments across Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, and other European regions. Candidates must be mobile and prepared for extended periods on the road. Assignments require adaptability, stamina, and a passion for immersive travel.
