Broadcom’s Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is hiring an experienced Technical Writer with a technical software background and a passion for building high-quality applications using agile practices. You’ll join our development team in the Plano, TX office, documenting mainframe software and collaborating with a creative, motivated tech writing team.
What You'll Do
- Create, develop, plan, write, and edit operational, instructional, maintenance, or test procedures for paper, multimedia, or web-based publication.
- Conduct interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.
- Research and translate technical information into manuals and web-based documents for technical and nontechnical users.
- Document engineering processes and specifications.
- Recommend formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.
- Produce documentation that conforms to company quality assurance standards.
- Lead the design and delivery of new documentation products and processes.
- Lead projects and product teams on documentation initiatives.
- Coach and mentor junior team members.
- Work with your supervisor and product teams to propose, plan, and initiate documentation needs.
- Adhere to the goals of both the technical writing team and the agile development team.
- Support documented best practices and procedures.
- Consult with management on long-range goals.
- Independently complete documentation work within management-set priorities.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of related experience.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent writing skills.
- A technical mind.
Nice to Have
- Mainframe experience or familiarity.
- A Master’s degree and 6+ years of related experience.
- A PhD and 3+ years of related experience.
- Post-graduate coursework may be desirable.

You will report to a documentation supervisor alongside other technical writing colleagues.

- Compensation range: $88,300 - $141,300 + eligible for equity in accordance with plan documents.
