Role Overview
As a Technical Artist on this project, you will serve as a key link between creative vision and technical execution. Your work will ensure that stylized art assets maintain their expressive quality while meeting strict performance standards across platforms. You'll develop tools, refine workflows, and support artists with clear technical guidance to bring animated worlds to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement custom shaders and materials that preserve a hand-crafted, animated aesthetic without sacrificing performance
- Build and manage asset pipelines from 3D modeling tools like Maya and Blender into Unreal Engine, ensuring smooth and reliable integration
- Define and monitor performance targets for geometry, textures, and rendering to maintain consistent frame rates in active multiplayer scenarios
- Lead the development of advanced rigging and retargeting systems that support exaggerated, expressive character animations
- Develop visual effects and lighting solutions using Niagara or Shuriken that enhance the game’s atmosphere while remaining visually clean and efficient
- Document workflows and best practices to help artists adopt new tools and pipelines with confidence
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of experience as a Technical Artist in game development, including at least one released casual or party-style game
- Deep familiarity with Unreal Engine and hands-on experience writing shaders using HLSL or GLSL
- Strong scripting skills in Python, C#, or C++ for developing automation tools and editor enhancements
- Experience using profiling tools such as RenderDoc, Pix, or engine-native debuggers to identify and resolve performance issues
- Ability to communicate technical limitations clearly to artists and translate feedback into practical solutions
Preferred Experience
- Background in co-development or external studio collaboration
- Work on titles based on TV, film, or animated franchises
- Solid sense of motion and particle design in a stylized 2D-influenced aesthetic
- Optimization experience targeting Nintendo Switch or mobile platforms
