The Home Depot is hiring a Systems Engineer (Remote) to join our engineering team. This entry-level role focuses on developing, maintaining, and supporting the technical infrastructure that powers a $130B business and serves millions of customers. You'll create, deploy, and support production systems while growing your technical and leadership skills as part of a collaborative team.
What You'll Do
- Perform configuration, debugging, and support for information technology solutions.
- Execute field and corporate roll-outs of technology.
- Stand up necessary system software, hardware, and equipment (physical or virtual) to meet changing infrastructure needs.
- Execute basic project planning and reporting.
- Perform test suites (functional, destructive, etc.) to enable successful rapid deployment of infrastructure as code to production.
- Collaborate with product and project teams to understand needs and enable them with infrastructure.
- Leverage tooling and custom applications to monitor the operational status of applications, infrastructure, networks, databases, and security; optimize and tune performance as appropriate.
- Perform root cause analysis, debugging, support, and post-mortem analysis for security incidents and service interruptions.
- Maintain, upgrade, and support existing systems and infrastructure to ensure operational stability.
- Open and manage vendor problem tickets to resolution.
- Produce in-house documentation around solutions.
- Monitor tools and proactively help teams struggling with systems issues; inform senior engineers of negative trends.
- Provide application support for software running in production.
- Support the creation of scripts and tools that drive automation and enable product teams and end users to move towards self service.
- Keep abreast of innovations and industry trends as well as changes to internal systems.
- Participate in and contribute to learning activities around modern systems engineering core practices (communities of practice).
- Proactively view articles, tutorials, and videos to learn about new technologies and best practices.
- Use critical thinking to approach problems and create solutions.
- Collaborate with senior leaders on assignments.
- Determine opportunities for improvement based on volume of tickets and contribute stories for the remediation.
What We're Looking For
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience.
- Knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Nice to Have
- 0-1 years of relevant work experience.
- Professional or educational experience as an Information Technology Engineer.
- Interest in working as part of a collaborative, cross-functional, modern engineering team.
- Experience with basic infrastructure, network, database, or security troubleshooting and remediation.
- Experience installing and upgrading applications or databases.
- Experience monitoring the operational status and performance of systems, networks, or databases.
- Knowledge of basic operating system commands and utilities as well as scripting.
- Exposure to agile processes.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as GCP and Azure.
- Experience supporting a retail or 24x7 operation.
- Exposure to version control systems.
- Exposure to a CI/CD toolchain.
- Exposure to production system designs including Infrastructure as Code, High Availability, and Performance monitoring.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: $50,000 - $110,000
