The YMCA of Southwest Florida is looking for a Swim Instructor to provide swim lessons to children and adults of all levels and abilities. Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director, you will be responsible for the safety of your participants and for delivering instruction based on YMCA standards.
What You'll Do
- Instruct all swim lesson participants in group or private settings.
- Ensure the safety of all participants in your class.
- Work scheduled hours, beginning and ending classes on time.
- Remain after class to answer questions and clean up supplies.
- Instruct and evaluate students participating in swim lessons.
- Submit completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information promptly.
- Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure patron safety in an emergency.
- Present a professional appearance and attitude, maintaining a high standard of customer service.
- Attend regularly scheduled, mandatory staff meetings.
- Utilize the time clock, monitor your timesheet, and submit corrections to your supervisor in a timely manner.
- Uphold all staff safety requirements, including cleaning protocols throughout the day.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

- Successfully meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
- Proficiency in swimming strokes and ability to instruct and demonstrate in a group or individual session.
- Ability to perform life saving techniques if necessary.
- Ability to forge mutually respectful partnerships with persons served.
- Able to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be a self starter, with high energy and a positive attitude.
- Adherence to a drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
- Ability to lift equipment and a small to average size child.
- Employment is contingent upon completing required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid/AED Certifications.
- WSI and/or YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
- Completion of the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogen’s training annually.
- Completion of the YMCA’s Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training annually.
- Completion of Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols.
- Completion of additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor.
Nice to Have
- Swim lesson experience or competitive swim experience.
Team & Environment
This role reports to the Aquatics Coordinator/Director.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position.
