The YMCA of Southwest Florida is hiring a Swim Instructor to provide swim lessons to children and adults of all levels and abilities. Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director, you will deliver instruction that meets YMCA standards while ensuring a safe and positive environment.
What You'll Do
- Instruct and evaluate students in both group and private swim lessons.
- Ensure the safety of all participants in your assigned class.
- Follow the schedule, beginning and ending classes on time.
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure patron safety during emergencies.
- Submit completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information promptly.
- Adhere to all staff safety and cleaning protocols throughout the day.
- Present a professional appearance and attitude while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
- Remain after class as needed to answer questions and clean up supplies.
- Attend mandatory meetings, training sessions, and staff meetings as scheduled.
- Utilize the time clock and monitor your timesheet, bringing corrections to your supervisor in a timely manner.
What We're Looking For
- WSI and/or YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
- Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- Proficiency in swimming strokes with the ability to instruct and demonstrate techniques.
- Ability to perform lifesaving techniques and lift equipment or a small to average size child.
- Successful completion of a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
- Ability to forge mutually respectful partnerships, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to a drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.
- Completion of required YMCA trainings annually, including Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Sexual Abuse Prevention.
- Completion of Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols training and additional training as recommended.
- A self-starter with high energy, a positive attitude, and a commitment to safety and service.
Team & Environment
This role reports directly to the Aquatics Coordinator/Director.
Work Mode
This position requires onsite work.
