Wabtec is looking for a Supplier Quality Development Engineer to join our Supplier Quality & Development (SQD) team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving supplier performance and ensuring robust quality across your assigned commodity, working directly with suppliers and internal cross-functional teams.
What You'll Do
- Ensure supplier quality for your assigned commodity.
- Perform supplier assessment and re-assessment audits, including for special processes, and track corrective action completion.
- Manage PPAPs, including initial sample releases and First Article Inspections (FAIs), to support the release of new parts.
- Conduct supplier re-qualification and support ongoing supplier development.
- Execute supplier development programs in collaboration with Engineering, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in Top Offender reviews, Quality Business Reviews (QBR), and Quality Quarterly Reviews (QQR) with key suppliers.
- Lead resolution of critical supplier issues (“Hot Issues”) in coordination with Product Line/Site Quality, Engineering, and Project Management.
- Ensure robust supplier root-cause analysis and identify internal improvement opportunities.
- Manage planning and execution of audits, QQR reviews, and worst-performing supplier action plans for your commodity.
- Verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
- Support Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) recovery processes in partnership with Commodity Lead Buyers and Site/Product Line teams.
- Provide regular updates on the status of critical supplier issues.
- Travel to supplier sites and Wabtec locations as required (up to 30%).
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience as a Quality Engineer.
- Hands-on expertise in CNC cutting, bending, milling, brake press operations, fabrication, and/or testing & validation.
- Extensive manufacturing experience with mechanical systems, fabrication processes, welding, and assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including welding schematics.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with design principles for railway products, systems, and operating environments.
- Experience with welding processes (TIG, MIG, arc), cutting, grinding, drilling, and assembling components.
- Knowledge of assessment methodologies and experience performing internal/external audits (ISO 19011, ISO 9001).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage workload independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Legal authorization to work in the EU (no visa sponsorship available).
Nice to Have
- Experience with EN 15085 is preferred.
