About the Role

Flex is looking for a Supplier Development Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for supplier development within a manufacturing or service process, working directly with suppliers to improve performance, implement controls, and develop quality assurance plans. You will help us deliver innovative products that improve the world.

What You'll Do

  • Select suitable suppliers jointly with sourcing based on quality, capability, pricing, delivery, and regulatory compliance.
  • Implement new supplier qualification through capability matching, risk assessment, and onsite qualification audits.
  • Provide value-added engineering proposals to optimize supplier manufacturing processes or products.
  • Implement PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) including FAI, control plans, FMEA, MSA, and reliability testing.
  • Track new qualified parts quality performance during pilot runs and drive supplier corrective actions.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert to help resolve supplier quality hot issues and perform troubleshooting.
  • Assist with annual maintenance audits for existing suppliers.
  • Help suppliers implement Continuous Improvement Programs using quality tools.
  • Handle ECO/ECN/SCR implementation from customers, following up on PPAP/FAI status.
  • Perform quality audits on suppliers to ensure compliance with ISO and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain strong relationships with purchasing engineers and the supplier system.
  • Provide cross-functional support to select, approve, and develop suppliers.
  • Drive full assessment of supplier process control plans, measures, and activities.
  • Use statistical techniques and professional judgment to research data for process improvement.
  • Develop and guide execution of process validations and tests; document results.
  • Guide supplier process capability studies and construct Design of Experiments.
  • Develop and implement procedures for new and/or improved supplier processes.
  • Provide engineering support to Receiving Inspection including statistical research, MSA, and Gage R&R studies.
  • Participate in Material Review Board resolutions on supplier-provided parts and services.
  • Participate in supplier Quality System Improvement Plans and guide the Supplier Requests for Change process.
  • Perform supplier Quality System audits and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Analyze non-conformances and supplier performance for key performance indicators.
  • Perform dock-to-stock monitoring and part selection activities.
  • Provide guidance to project teams for supplied component and supplier qualifications.
  • Guide teams in identifying risks/hazards relative to new product designs, processes, suppliers, and applications.
  • Rate and track supplier performance and drive supplier continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain supplier management processes and tools.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
  • 6 years of engineering experience in the high technology electronics industry or a related field.
  • Proficient in using electronic assembly tools, including color codes, components, and schematics.
  • Knowledge and experience with various electrical power components, such as transformers, cables, and breakers.
  • Skilled in inspection techniques for bare boards, systems, components, and cabling using microscopes and measuring tools.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical tools, including taps, dies, and alignment tools.
  • Advanced operations, technical, and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer relationship management.
  • Expert knowledge of organizational functions and a thorough understanding of related business processes and technologies.

This is a local-country remote position based in US Texas.
