About the Role

The Supervisor, Authorizations oversees daily operations of the authorizations team, ensuring all insurance pre-authorizations are processed accurately and efficiently. This role manages team performance, resolves escalated issues, and supports process improvements to enhance patient access and reimbursement integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team handling insurance pre-authorizations for clinical services
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of authorization requests
  • Monitor team productivity and adherence to performance metrics
  • Train new team members and provide ongoing coaching
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex patient access issues
  • Review and validate clinical documentation for authorization requirements
  • Maintain compliance with payer-specific policies and regulatory standards
  • Identify and implement workflow improvements to increase efficiency
  • Escalate denied or pended authorizations to appropriate stakeholders
  • Track and report key performance indicators to management
  • Support audits and compliance reviews related to authorization processes
  • Ensure proper use of authorization tracking systems and databases
  • Communicate status updates to referring providers and internal teams
  • Manage high-volume workloads during peak periods
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and patient focus
  • Assist in developing standard operating procedures for authorization workflows
  • Participate in system upgrades and technology implementations
  • Coordinate with insurance specialists to clarify coverage policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and financial information
  • Support quality improvement initiatives related to patient access
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding authorization status
  • Ensure team follows consistent documentation practices
  • Evaluate emerging payer trends impacting authorization success rates
  • Prepare regular performance summaries for leadership review
  • Foster team engagement and professional development
