About the Role
The Supervisor, Authorizations oversees daily operations of the authorizations team, ensuring all insurance pre-authorizations are processed accurately and efficiently. This role manages team performance, resolves escalated issues, and supports process improvements to enhance patient access and reimbursement integrity.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team handling insurance pre-authorizations for clinical services
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of authorization requests
- Monitor team productivity and adherence to performance metrics
- Train new team members and provide ongoing coaching
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex patient access issues
- Review and validate clinical documentation for authorization requirements
- Maintain compliance with payer-specific policies and regulatory standards
- Identify and implement workflow improvements to increase efficiency
- Escalate denied or pended authorizations to appropriate stakeholders
- Track and report key performance indicators to management
- Support audits and compliance reviews related to authorization processes
- Ensure proper use of authorization tracking systems and databases
- Communicate status updates to referring providers and internal teams
- Manage high-volume workloads during peak periods
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and patient focus
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures for authorization workflows
- Participate in system upgrades and technology implementations
- Coordinate with insurance specialists to clarify coverage policies
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and financial information
- Support quality improvement initiatives related to patient access
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding authorization status
