About the Role
The role involves contributing to structural design projects by preparing drawings, models, and calculations under the guidance of licensed engineers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop structural drawings and documentation for a range of building types
- Create 3D models using design software for structural systems
- Assist in performing calculations for beams, columns, and foundations
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate design solutions
- Review construction documents for consistency and accuracy
- Support project teams during plan check and permitting phases
- Participate in site visits to observe construction progress
- Coordinate with architects and other consultants
- Produce revisions based on feedback from engineers and clients
- Maintain organized project files and design records
- Use structural analysis software to validate designs
- Prepare material takeoffs and quantity estimates
- Ensure designs adhere to local and national building codes
- Assist in developing construction specifications
- Attend team meetings to discuss project status and deliverables
- Help troubleshoot design issues that arise during construction
- Support quality control reviews of design outputs
- Generate details for connections and structural components
- Work on projects across multiple sectors including commercial and residential
- Follow established office standards for drafting and modeling
- Assist in training newer team members on workflows
- Contribute to process improvements within the design group
- Manage time effectively across multiple assignments
- Respond to requests from project managers in a timely manner
- Support sustainable design practices where applicable
