Role Overview
This position is central to advancing the long-term direction of a globally recognised research institution. Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer and supporting the Director General, the Strategy Officer will help define, refine, and implement a cohesive scientific and operational strategy that aligns with evolving trends in molecular and life sciences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and updating of the organisation’s 5-year strategic plan, ensuring alignment across scientific and administrative functions
- Monitor global advancements in life sciences to identify emerging research opportunities and technological shifts
- Prepare clear, evidence-based strategy documents, progress reports, and executive briefings for internal and external stakeholders
- Translate complex datasets into performance indicators, visualisations, and strategic narratives that inform decision-making
- Design and manage strategic initiatives, coordinating input from multidisciplinary teams across international locations
- Facilitate working groups and consultation processes to gather insights from scientific and operational communities
- Strengthen external engagement by supporting strategic partnerships and innovation networks
- Contribute to organisational transformation efforts, including AI integration and digital strategy
- Develop and maintain frameworks for measuring impact, including data collection, analysis, and periodic evaluation
- Support governance cycles with high-quality presentations and reports for leadership and oversight bodies
Qualifications and Experience
A background in life sciences is essential, with a PhD in molecular biology or a closely related field strongly preferred. Candidates should bring at least three years of professional experience in strategy, research management, or a similar role. Proven ability to interpret complex scientific and institutional data, distil key insights, and communicate them effectively to diverse audiences is required.
Experience managing collaborative projects in an international or multi-site environment is an asset. Familiarity with impact assessment methods and change management processes will support success in this role.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based across multiple international sites, including Heidelberg, Barcelona, Cambridge, Grenoble, Hamburg, and Rome. Occasional travel between locations and some out-of-hours work will be necessary. The role supports a flexible and inclusive work culture, with teams operating across time zones and disciplines.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers a monthly salary starting at EUR 4,031 (Grade 5 or 6), with additional allowances based on personal and family circumstances.
