The Storytelling & Editorial Associate is responsible for developing authentic, respectful narratives that reflect the journeys of unaccompanied and separated children. Working closely with the Director, Storytelling, and cross-functional teams, this role ensures content is client-centered, emotionally resonant, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with staff and clients to identify and develop powerful stories that reflect KIND’s mission and the realities of the children served.
- Apply trauma-informed and ethical storytelling principles to protect client dignity and promote empowerment.
- Produce clear, engaging written content for blogs, reports, and external communications tailored to diverse audiences.
- Maintain and update an internal repository of stories, ensuring accessibility and compliance with organizational guidelines.
- Copyedit materials across formats, upholding consistency with the organization’s style standards and contributing to their ongoing refinement.
- Support the development of a coordinated editorial calendar in partnership with the Global Communications team.
- Identify content gaps and opportunities to strengthen outreach and engagement across stakeholder groups.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or a related field, or demonstrate equivalent professional experience. A minimum of three years in professional writing is required, with strong editorial judgment and the ability to distill complex topics into accessible narratives. Fluency in English is essential; Spanish proficiency is a plus, given the primary language of the population served.
Candidates must have experience adapting tone and structure for varied audiences, familiarity with style frameworks, and a genuine interest in child protection and U.S. immigration policy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and experience working remotely are important. The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, and committed to maintaining personal wellbeing while managing multiple priorities.
