Orum is looking for a Staff/Senior Staff Frontend Software Engineer to lead the architecture, standards, and systems that power the user interface layer across our real-time, high-scale platform. You will drive the long-term vision for the frontend ecosystem, building foundational design systems, shared component libraries, tooling, and standards.
What You'll Do
- Define and lead the architecture of our frontend ecosystem, focusing on scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Own and evolve our unified design system, component library, and UI patterns in partnership with Design.
- Improve developer velocity through standardized tooling, templates, build pipelines, and testing frameworks.
- Establish and document frontend best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines.
- Set and enforce performance budgets, accessibility standards, and UI quality benchmarks.
- Integrate automated testing (unit, integration, visual, accessibility) into CI workflows.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality user experiences.
- Mentor and influence engineers across teams, driving adoption of shared systems and frontend excellence.
- Lead cross-team initiatives that modernize the frontend stack and improve product delivery velocity.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on frontend development.
- Expert-level proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and modern front-end architectures.
- Demonstrated experience building or leading design systems, component libraries, or UI platforms used across multiple product teams.
- Strong knowledge of performance optimization, accessibility (WCAG), responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Deep familiarity with frontend tooling (Webpack, Vite, Turborepo, ESLint, Storybook) and testing frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, Jest, RTL).
- Proven ability to lead technical direction, mentor senior engineers, and drive adoption of standards.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in high-scale, low-latency, or real-time UI environments.
- Strong understanding of design workflows using Figma and design-to-code alignment.
- Experience with monorepos, shared library versioning, and package architecture.
- Experience contributing to or building open-source UI frameworks or design systems.
- Prior experience improving developer experience or UI platform capabilities.
- Experience with data visualization, real-time collaboration patterns, and offline-first strategies.
- Experience in high-scale, real-time domains (telephony, streaming media, or analogous event-driven systems).
- Familiarity with our broader stack: NodeJS with TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Ruby, GCP, and FreeSWITCH.
