About the Role

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is hiring a Staff Nurse II (Senior Professional Staff Nurse II) to set the standard for the quality of care within our surgical and recovery units. This Registered Nurse role manages patient care activities for groups of patients and families, providing leadership, partnership, and collaboration while seeking opportunities for process improvement.

What You'll Do

  • Admit and prepare patients for surgical procedures.
  • Recover patients from anesthesia after surgery.
  • Provide discharge instructions to patients and their support person.
  • Care for patients in extended stay waiting for an inpatient bed.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure the unit meets all regulatory standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Pennsylvania or a compact state.
  • CPR certification based on AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patient age groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, staff, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively within a complex environment, handling multiple priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
  • Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted.
  • Annual completion of a professional contribution selected from department, hospital, or system goals.
  • UPMC-approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer (unless Master's in nursing or DNP is held).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting certification.
  • Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI clearances.

Nice to Have

  • BSN preferred.
