About the Role

Zoetis LLC is hiring a Senior Tooling Engineer to support contract manufacturers in maintaining and optimizing an injection molding tooling fleet, and to lead the design and development of new plastic injection molds for high-volume manufacturing. This role involves extensive cross-functional work in a regulated manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do

  • Define and standardize tool maintenance processes and hold suppliers accountable.
  • Drive root cause analysis for common tool issues and downtime.
  • Create and track spare tool inventory and strategy.
  • Benchmark repair activities across suppliers to minimize downtime.
  • Proactively identify and fix weak areas in tools.
  • Manage tool health and create retirement plans.
  • Improve real-time visibility into tool status and performance, including using in-mold sensors.
  • Review and approve tool design and Moldflow analyses before production.
  • Identify and standardize best practices in mold design across all suppliers.
  • Optimize tooling designs for manufacturability, cost, and quality.
  • Oversee the fabrication, testing, and validation of new molds.
  • Track mold build activities and ensure schedule compliance.
  • Support tool bring-up at supplier sites to solve issues.
  • Own and update mold CAD and 2D design files.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance and reduce cycle times.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new tooling projects.
  • Investigate root causes of production issues impacting quality or yield.
  • Identify sources of process variation and design solutions.
  • Collect process data and perform statistical evaluation to monitor performance.
  • Partner with enabling support teams to improve operations.
  • Maintain quality control and safety standards.
  • Contribute to meeting business objectives around compliance and cost savings.
  • Assist in completing validation activities as required.
  • Assist in non-conformance and CAPA investigations.

What We're Looking For

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (e.g., FDA, USDA), preferably in diagnostics or biodevice.
  • Proven experience with high-volume manufacturing processes.
  • Strong knowledge of plastic materials, injection molding, and tooling design principles.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturing organizations.
  • Proficiency in Moldflow and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Experience with Operational Excellence tools such as DMAIC, 5 why’s, FMEA.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively across departmental boundaries.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing conditions and priorities.
  • Proficient computer skills with Excel, Word, MS Visio, JMP, Minitab, or similar.
  • Must reside within a commutable distance to Ontario, CA.

  • Compensation range: $96,000 - $148,000.
