About the Role

Work Arrangement This role is hybrid, which means you'll be reporting to our Milford, MI facility three times per week (or another frequency as business needs dictate). The Role As a Steering System Engineer, you'll be the mastermind ensuring our steering systems are nothing short of world-class. Your mission: apply rigorous system engineering methods throughout the entire lifecycle of steering system creation, development, assessment, and verification. You'll be responsible for specifying requirements, conducting analysis, benchmarking, development, test procedures, resolving issues, and verifying our front and rear steering systems to blow our customers' expectations out of the water. What You'll Do (Responsibilities) • Develop and manage systems engineering deliverables (like System Technical Specifications, DFMEA, HAZOP) and connect them strategically across subsystems • Define, model, simulate, and test system requirements with laser-focused accuracy and completeness • Facilitate crystal-clear communication of system requirements and issues across internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing • Champion feature commonization to slash system complexity • Ensure comprehensive requirement capture in validation plans, total team understanding, and smooth ETM release • Seamlessly integrate new steering systems and features into future vehicle architectures • Support vehicle development, integration, and performance activities for front and rear steering features • Diagnose and resolve integration and performance challenges throughout the development cycle • Contribute to feature and system test procedure development • Support sourcing activities via specification development and supplier technical reviews • Conduct competitive benchmarking to inform feature and system performance requirements • Assist with Advanced Technology Work (ATW) projects • Stay razor-sharp on emerging technologies and competitive products • Support ride trips, clinics, and address assembly plant and field issues This job may be eligible for relocation benefits Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications) • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Math or a related field • 5+ years post-graduation experience with steering systems, electrical devices and controls • Deep understanding of chassis/steering/suspension software development • Working knowledge of Control Systems • Solid grasp of Vehicle Dynamics engineering theory and principles • Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink (or similar) • Experience with Vehicle Dynamics simulation software (CarSim, Simpack, etc.) • Understanding of serial data communication & network concepts • Familiarity with vehicle data collection tools: neoVI, Vector tools, ETAS • Working knowledge of Steering System development, integration, verification, & validation • Working knowledge of Steering System hardware design and failure modes • Working knowledge of system reliability, safety, monitoring, and diagnostic technologies • User-centric understanding of vehicle feature experiences • Ability to rapidly prototype concept algorithms supporting requirement development • Proven track record of solving complex problems and outlining strategic solutions • Proactive, results-driven individual with high initiative • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Report review • Capacity to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop • Experience calibrating vehicle chassis control systems • Experience with Vehicle Dynamics test methods • Strong understanding of vehicle integration across chassis systems (powertrain, brakes, suspension, steering, driveline) GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE.
