Responsibilities
- Design mechanical structures to protect electronics in high-stress environments
- Perform structural and thermal analysis to validate component integrity
- Develop prototypes and iterate based on test results
- Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers on integration
- Ensure designs comply with industry and safety standards
- Lead failure analysis and implement corrective measures
- Specify materials and manufacturing processes for durability
- Manage documentation for design history and traceability
- Support qualification testing under extreme conditions
- Optimize designs for manufacturability and serviceability
- Interface with vendors for component sourcing and fabrication
- Maintain design accuracy through GD&T and tolerance analysis
- Use CAD tools for 3D modeling and assembly design
- Generate engineering drawings with clear specifications
- Conduct design reviews with cross-functional stakeholders
- Apply DFMEA and other reliability methodologies
- Address environmental sealing and ingress protection
- Integrate thermal management solutions in compact spaces
- Ensure compliance with shock and vibration requirements
- Support product certification and regulatory submissions
- Drive continuous improvement in mechanical performance
- Troubleshoot field issues related to mechanical failure
- Lead ruggedization strategy across product lines
- Mentor junior engineers in best practices
- Stay current with materials and testing advancements
