Responsibilities
- Design and refine ESC and chassis dynamics control systems using subjective and objective evaluation methods during prototype and production phases in coordination with chassis, brake, and NVH specialists.
- Perform competitive vehicle analysis and contribute to customer preference research to guide vehicle dynamics tuning.
- Execute ESC performance certification tests in accordance with NHTSA standards and major media evaluation protocols.
- Lead the development of chassis control performance, including software calibration and hardware validation.
- Conduct FMVSS126 ESC compliance testing and NCAP rollover assessments.
- Participate in winter testing across global locations to validate low-traction performance of ESC and chassis control systems.
- Support internal development of chassis control logic and lead tuning implementation.
- Establish and carry out in-house testing procedures, including specification and procurement of test equipment.
- Perform objective testing and data analysis aligned with NHTSA and major media test methodologies.
- Benchmark Hyundai/Kia and competitor vehicles at key development milestones.
- Gather and interpret customer feedback to align vehicle dynamics with brand product vision.
- Support chassis R&D operations at proving ground facilities.
- Function effectively both independently and within team settings while mentoring junior engineers.
- Assist manufacturing teams during pre-launch phases and support resolution of technical issues.
- Attend industry events, training sessions, and vendor demonstrations to stay current on chassis technologies.
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation as required.
- Collaborate with chassis, brake, and NVH engineers to enhance ESC and chassis control performance.
- Install or oversee installation of suspension components and tires on test vehicles.
- Undertake additional chassis development tasks as assigned.
- Travel up to 40% of the time for domestic and international product development and testing.
- Support departmental budget planning and monitoring activities.
- Perform administrative duties including purchase requests, time tracking, and travel coordination.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Understanding of automotive engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with electric vehicle architectures, brake-by-wire, and regenerative braking systems.
- In-depth knowledge of vehicle dynamics control principles.
- Strong grasp of SAE and FMVSS testing standards for chassis systems with hands-on testing capability.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies.
- Proven mechanical aptitude.
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- Experience collaborating in multicultural teams.
- Advanced driving proficiency.
- Expertise in writing technical reports.
- Proficiency with data acquisition tools and sensors, including CAN bus systems.
- Solid project management abilities.
- Advanced skills in MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Effective time management and organizational capabilities.
