Role Overview
As a Specialist Trader, you will be responsible for executing client and agency orders through the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Automated Trading System. Your work will ensure compliant, efficient trade execution in line with NSE Equity Trading Rules and the regulatory standards set by the Capital Markets Authority. This role is central to enhancing execution quality, supporting product diversification, and strengthening the firm’s presence in local capital markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive revenue by delivering high-quality trade execution, increasing trading volumes, and improving access to liquidity across NSE-listed asset classes.
- Accurately process trades on the NSE platform, prioritizing optimal pricing, timing, order sequence, and execution performance during all trading sessions.
- Apply in-depth understanding of NSE trading mechanics, including order types, matching algorithms, price bands, and execution priority rules.
- Strengthen sales trading functions and broaden execution capabilities by utilizing the integrated capital markets platform.
- Partner with Investment Banking and Distribution teams to support clients across asset classes and assist in transitions from primary to secondary market trading.
- Stay current with NSE market structure developments and adhere to all regulatory requirements from the NSE and Capital Markets Authority.
- Operate within defined risk parameters, trading limits, and internal controls.
- Coordinate closely with settlement, custody, sales, risk management, compliance, and operations teams to ensure seamless trade lifecycle management.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must hold a university degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies is required. Professional certifications relevant to capital markets are highly regarded.
Preferred applicants will have 5 to 8 years of experience in securities trading, brokerage operations, sales trading, or capital markets. NSE Automated Trading System (ATS) Certification is strongly preferred.
Technical Expertise
- Proficiency in NSE Trading Systems and automated trading platforms
- Experience with order management and trade matching processes
- Solid foundation in sales trading operations
- Knowledge of trading rules, surveillance protocols, and market regulation
