About the Role

The Home Depot is looking for a Software Engineer Senior Manager to help shape our enterprise technology strategy and grow engineering talent. In this remote role, you will contribute to product creation, lead managers through change, and ensure product teams have effective third-party tools.

What You'll Do

  • Work and negotiate with partners on staffing skilled engineering positions on product teams.
  • Contribute to and make recommendations for strategic plans in support of key objectives.
  • Support and nurture strategic vendor relationships; recommend ways to influence vendors aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Evaluate and help identify emerging technologies for adoption across the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with product team members to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions.
  • Document, review, and ensure all quality and change control standards are met.
  • Write custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases.
  • Work with vendors and partners for successful implementation of critical tooling and platforms.
  • Create meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure issues are addressed proactively.
  • Contribute to enterprise-wide tools to drive destructive testing, automation, and engineering empowerment.
  • Participate in and lead review board sessions to drive consistency across the enterprise.
  • Make suggestions to drive operational excellence and meet operational metrics.
  • Fill in on product teams for engineers who are out of the office.
  • Field questions from engineers, product teams, or support teams.
  • Monitor tools and participate in conversations to encourage collaboration across product teams.
  • Learn new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizations.
  • Provide application support for software running in production.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for engineers on the team.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to Software Engineers.
  • Attract, retain, and develop top talent to build a world class Software Engineering Team.
  • Conduct annual and mid-year reviews by reviewing individual development plans and team feedback.
  • Foster collaboration with team members to drive consistency across product teams and expose engineers to career interests.
  • Act as a proponent of modern software development practices.
  • Guide team members in strategy, alignment, analysis, and execution tasks within and across product teams.
  • Participate in learning activities around modern software design and development core practices.
  • Build relationships with technology leaders at other companies to learn best practices.

What We're Looking For

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • Mastery of an object oriented programming language (preferably Java).

Nice to Have

  • 6-8 years of relevant work experience.
  • Mastery of a modern scripting language (preferably Python).
  • Mastery of a modern web application framework such as Ruby on Rails, Spring MVC, and Node.js.
  • Mastery of writing SQL queries against a relational database.
  • Mastery of modern product development processes and pipelines.
  • Proficient in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques.
  • Proficient in effective system monitoring and log analysis techniques.
  • Capable of understanding complicated systems quickly.
  • Proficiency in guiding more junior team members through Software Engineering fundamentals.
  • Proficient managing and growing team members in a professional setting.
  • Proficient balancing workloads across teams.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships.
  • Experience with translating high level strategy to tactical execution.
  • Progressive Leadership Experience: Multiple years of management experience, typically with responsibility for leading leaders.
  • Progressive Leadership Experience: Demonstrated success managing cross-functional teams and delivering results at scale.
  • Domain-Specific Expertise: Usually requires hands-on experience in eCommerce/Retail and experience successfully executing strategic initiatives.
  • Domain-Specific Expertise: Technical or analytical expertise (e.g., proficiency in GCP, project management, digital, etc.).
  • Track Record of Results: Proven ability to achieve or exceed targets, lead teams to outperform, and manage organizational change.
  • Track Record of Results: Evidence of delivering measurable business, operational, or customer value.

Team & Environment

You will lead managers and their teams, reporting to a Technology Director, Sr. Director or Vice President.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary Range: $170,000 - $240,000

Work Mode

This is a fully remote position open to candidates located anywhere in the United States.
