We’re seeking experienced Skilled Highway Workers to contribute to vital highways projects across North Tyneside. In this role, you’ll carry out a variety of construction tasks on local road networks, supporting both routine maintenance and larger capital improvements. Working under the guidance of a Site Manager, you’ll help ensure infrastructure is delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification.
What You’ll Do
- Perform construction duties including excavation, paving, kerb laying, drainage installation, concreting, and asphalt application
- Interpret construction drawings, utility plans, and technical specifications to guide on-site work
- Assist with setting out and ensure all work aligns with required levels and alignment
- Identify and safely expose underground services using approved methods
- Operate small plant machinery, tools, and equipment in compliance with safety standards
- Conduct daily inspections of site conditions and equipment, documenting results
- Support junior team members through guidance and on-the-job assistance
- Coordinate with site supervisors on material deliveries and logistics
- Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in construction or highway maintenance environments
- Valid CSCS card and NRSWA Operative accreditation
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to follow site instructions accurately
- Commitment to safe working practices at all times
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on highways schemes
- NVQ Level 2 in General Construction or equivalent
- Plant operation certifications (e.g., NPORS for excavator, dumper, roller)
- Training in First Aid, Manual Handling, CAT & Genny, or Confined Space entry
