Copeland is hiring a Senior/Lead Project Engineer to execute fast-paced projects while building deep expertise in our oil-free centrifugal compression technology. You will be instrumental in developing, evaluating, and maturing centrifugal compressors to improve their efficiency, cost, and reliability.
What You'll Do
- Execute fast-paced, time-sensitive projects while building organizational subject matter expertise in rotordynamics.
- Apply rotordynamic expertise to design experiments and validate centrifugal compressor components such as rotors, bearings, and seals.
- Conduct testing of centrifugal compressors to troubleshoot and diagnose vibration problems.
- Lead and guide mechanical testing of newly designed bearings, seals, and rotors on component and product test rigs.
- Provide support on balancing rotor components and rotor assembly.
- Generate technical specifications for rotordynamic design and testing of centrifugal compressors.
- Communicate clearly and precisely, both in writing and verbally.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics.
- 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer defining bearing applications, working with oil-free centrifugal compressors, and designing, experimenting, and validating centrifugal compressor components.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in testing, data acquisition, and processing test data for troubleshooting.
- Ability to develop new technology and strong hands-on skills.
- Good understanding of GD&T and tolerances.
- Capable of utilizing engineering knowledge to lead cross-functional efforts in technical problem-solving with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment and provide on-site support.
Nice to Have
- 7 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer defining bearing applications, working with oil-free centrifugal compressors, and designing, experimenting, and validating centrifugal compressor components.
- Experience in rotordynamic design and analysis of oil-free machinery.
- Troubleshooting vibration/dynamic issues of rotors supported by hydrodynamic fluid film bearings such as foil bearings or spiral groove bearings.
- Familiarity with oil-free centrifugal compressors and/or high-speed motor control.
- Prior HVAC/R experience.
- Previous experience developing and integrating products for HVAC/R applications.
- Prior proven success in cross-functional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
