About the Role
This position involves leading water resource engineering projects, including planning, modeling, and permitting, while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to support environmental compliance and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and management of water resource projects from concept through completion
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for watershed and drainage systems
- Prepare technical reports and engineering analyses for regulatory submittals
- Support permitting efforts under Clean Water Act programs including Section 401 and 404
- Collaborate with environmental scientists and planners on integrated project teams
- Design stormwater management systems and best management practices (BMPs)
- Evaluate flood risk and drainage issues for public and private sector clients
- Review civil engineering plans for compliance with water quality regulations
- Perform watershed assessments and develop water budget calculations
- Use GIS and CAD tools to support spatial analysis and design documentation
- Coordinate with clients to understand project goals and technical requirements
- Supervise junior engineers and provide technical guidance
- Assist in the development of grant-funded water resource initiatives
- Prepare cost estimates and project schedules for engineering scopes
- Ensure designs align with local, state, and federal regulatory standards
- Participate in field investigations and site inspections
- Contribute to environmental impact reports and mitigation planning
- Stay current with evolving water policy and engineering best practices
- Support climate resilience and sea level rise adaptation studies
- Present findings to clients, agencies, and stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in engineering, hydrology, or related field
- PE license in California
- Experience with DWR or USACE modeling standards
- Background in coastal hydrology or sea level rise analysis
- Familiarity with TMDL programs and waste discharge requirements
- Project management experience with public agency clients
- Knowledge of funding mechanisms such as Proposition 1 or IRWM grants
- Experience using InfoSWMM or SWMM5 for urban drainage modeling
- Training in climate adaptation or flood risk management
- Participation in professional organizations such as ASCE or AWRA
