Penguin Random House is hiring a Senior System Administrator to take responsibility for the stability and security of our network and hosting environments. You will design our IT infrastructure, working with a modern technical stack in a culture built on respect, diversity, and helpfulness.
What You'll Do
- Ensure secure network and hosting environments with support from service providers.
- Administer databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, and Oracle, managing and optimizing them for data availability and integrity.
- Set up and manage virtualization solutions and highly available clusters in the Linux environment, with central patch and update management.
- Analyze and troubleshoot problems, continuously improving monitoring tools to identify potential vulnerabilities early.
- Support software development with configuration management, provisioning, and deployment automation.
- Design and manage backup solutions to ensure data security and recoverability.
What We're Looking For
- A completed technical degree (e.g., computer science, software and systems engineering), a technician qualification, or comparable training and relevant professional experience.
- Proven experience in network and system administration and managing complex IT infrastructures.
- Negotiation-level German language skills and good English skills.
- Strong communication and organizational skills to maintain an overview in complex IT environments, willingness to take responsibility, and enjoy working with others.
- Temporal flexibility (e.g., for maintenance deployments) and mobility.
