Fehr Graham, a Trilon Group company, is looking for a Senior Structures Engineer to lead meaningful projects, mentor engineers, and solve complex challenges in bridge and transportation structures. You will be responsible for developing structural calculations, producing engineering drawings, and supporting construction phases.
What You'll Do
- Develop structural calculations and produce engineering drawings for both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build projects related to bridge and transportation structures.
- Perform and direct engineering alternatives investigations through data collection and analysis, performing calculations, and evaluating alternate solutions.
- Prepare written technical reports.
- Support the construction phase of projects, including responding to RFI’s, reviewing shop drawings, and problem-solving.
- Train and mentor junior engineers.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor of Science from an ABET-accredited university in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer and/or Structural Engineer.
- 10+ years post-registration structural engineering experience.
- 15+ years of relevant bridge design and plans production experience, which may include reinforced concrete bridges, prestressed/post-tensioned concrete bridges, steel plate and box girder bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, sign/signal structures, sound barrier walls, and other transportation-related structures.
- Experience using a variety of bridge design software (e.g., FB Multi-Pier, Leap Bridge Concrete, Smartbridge, LARSA, CSI, STAAD, MDX, Shoring Suite, Atlas, and the NCDOT suite of MathCAD analysis worksheets).
- Proficiency in Microstation, GEOPAK, OpenBridge Modeler, AutoCAD and/or CADD platforms to produce transportation structure designs and plans.
- Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through the application of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
- Ability to guide junior staff and participate in the design and detailing of all aspects of small- to large-scale multi-discipline bridge projects of varying technical complexity.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
Nice to Have
- Masters (MSE/MSCE) in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- PE and/or SE certification in North Carolina or the ability to obtain North Carolina Registration.
- Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through the application of the NCDOT Structures Manual and NCDOT Construction Specifications.
- Ability to do 3D modeling in OpenBridge Modeler.
- Construction specialty engineering experience.
- Experience with post-tensioning applications.
- Experience with straddle bent design.
