About the Role
This role involves owning the end-to-end design process for complex electromechanical systems, from concept through production, while mentoring junior engineers and driving design for manufacturability and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and implementation of mechanical and electrical designs for advanced sensing devices
- Translate system requirements into detailed component and subsystem specifications
- Perform tolerance analysis and design for assembly in high-volume manufacturing environments
- Develop and validate prototypes using rapid iteration and testing methodologies
- Collaborate with firmware and software teams to integrate control systems
- Own design documentation including schematics, layouts, and test plans
- Conduct design reviews and lead failure mode analysis sessions
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure component quality and supply chain stability
- Drive continuous improvement in design processes using DFMEA and Six Sigma principles
- Ensure compliance with industry safety and regulatory standards
- Mentor junior engineers in best practices for hardware development
- Support manufacturing ramp with detailed assembly and test instructions
- Troubleshoot and resolve field issues related to product performance
- Utilize CAD tools for 3D modeling and simulation of mechanical systems
- Optimize designs for cost, weight, and power efficiency
- Integrate sensors and actuators into compact, ruggedized enclosures
- Apply thermal and structural analysis to validate design robustness
- Manage design changes through formal engineering change order processes
- Collaborate with quality assurance on root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Support product certification and regulatory testing activities
- Participate in cross-functional product development teams
- Evaluate new technologies and materials for future product integration
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends in sensor design
- Ensure designs meet environmental and durability requirements
- Drive innovation through patentable design solutions
