At Wise, we're building money without borders for everyone, everywhere. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer I to join our mission. You will build a robust control framework to ensure our entire product portfolio is covered with essential screening checks, preventing the onboarding of sanctioned individuals, organizations, and politically exposed persons. You'll work directly with our back-office and compliance teams to redesign and build better internal tools, improving both our internal processes and the customer experience.
What You'll Do
- Build a robust control framework to ensure the entire Wise product portfolio is covered with essential screening checks.
- Prevent onboarding of sanctioned individuals, organisations and politically exposed people.
- Ensure associated risks are thoroughly mitigated and controls are functioning effectively.
- Scale operations team and develop solutions to support them, ensuring alerts are accurately checked and fully auditable.
- Enhance customer experience, making it easy for customers to provide necessary information and documents.
- Redesign and build better internal tools for case handling and management that are easy to use, efficient, and can grow with us.
- Team up with regional and growth teams to make FinCrime and screening tools easier to implement across all markets.
- Fight financial crime, not just comply with requirements.
- Run comprehensive screening checks across all products and use cases.
- Ensure an invisible and frictionless experience for customers.
- Meet near-real time performance requirements for data processing.
- Automate manual processes where logic can be described.
What We're Looking For
- A strong product mindset, you prioritise work with the customers and operational teams in mind and make data-driven decisions.
- Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audience.
- 7+ years of Java knowledge.
- Experience with Spring framework.
- Experience with event streaming platforms (e.g. Kafka).
- Experience with microservice best practices.
- Experience working with relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas.
- You enjoy writing testable code.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Hands on knowledge of system integration patterns.
- You believe in and follow best coding practices, code reviews and open feedback.
Nice to Have
- Experience with React or another modern frontend framework.
