U-Haul is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Cloud Gaming - Video Algorithms (L5) to shape the video experience for its cloud gaming platform. You will be responsible for designing and implementing the encoding algorithms and software workflows that define render quality, latency, and network performance.
What You'll Do
- Design, prototype, and implement encoding algorithms and software workflows that power cloud games.
- Develop innovative, cost-efficient solutions for hardware and network use, balancing render quality, encoding quality, latency, and network conditions.
- Ideate and prototype high-risk-high-reward solutions for unique challenges in the cloud gaming approach.
- Work with external vendors to guide their development in low-latency encoding.
- Solve video encoding, rendering, and transmission problems to make games smoother, crisper, and more engaging.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in multimedia software development for real-time systems, with excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
- Demonstrated proficiency in C++, C, Go, or object-oriented programming.
- Solid understanding of video compression and processing, including codec standards like H.264/AVC, HEVC, and AV1.
- Solid understanding of real-time image and signal processing.
Nice to Have
- MS or PhD.
- Experience with cloud gaming.
- Experience with software performance optimization on constrained hardware.
- Experience with hardware video encoders and SoCs.
- Involvement in open-source multimedia projects such as ffmpeg, x264, avisynth, or webm.
- Experience with image and video quality assessment.
