About the Role

Illumina is hiring a Senior Sequencing Sales Specialist for the Great Lakes region. You will be the customer-facing, strategic, and technical sales expert for Illumina's Sequencing and multiomic product portfolios, working within a team of account managers to drive regional sales and monitor market dynamics.

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with marketing, Territory Account Managers, Inside Sales, and other teams as an overlay specialist to support strategic and revenue goals.
  • Assist with developing customized territory plans yearly and quarterly.
  • Meet regularly with customers both individually and as part of an Illumina team.
  • Prepare and present compelling technical seminars on Illumina Sequencing product lines and applications.
  • Develop long-term customer relationships as a trusted consultant and connect customers with internal teams.
  • Ensure the sales team is trained on all relevant technical, product, and application information.
  • Leverage technical knowledge to further sales and become an expert on new Illumina innovations.
  • Read, understand, and communicate current scientific and clinical research.
  • Maintain broad knowledge of the market environment, competition, and industry trends.
  • Assist with developing workshops, seminar series, and other marketing activities.
  • Distinguish between regular sales and business development opportunities and involve the correct internal partners.
  • Proactively use and support the expanded network of national and global sequencing specialists.
  • Coordinate and communicate strategic business plans effectively to manager and stakeholders.
  • Advise internal teams with deep product, customer, market, and application knowledge.
  • Participate in customer-facing company events such as conferences and user group meetings.
  • Lead without authority, maintain positivity, and inspire peers, customers, and collaborators.

What We're Looking For

  • BA/BS, MS, or equivalent degree in Life or Biological Sciences.
  • Typically 5+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent.
  • Technological expert on Next Generation Sequencing and multiomic applications, basic informatics, and the clinical and research sequencing markets.
  • Presentation experience, capable of delivering a persuasive message by integrating sales and technical acumen.
  • Learns quickly and independently to maintain deep current knowledge of multiomics and sequencing.
  • Highly self-motivated, independent, adaptable, and successful individual who enjoys a challenging and dynamic work environment.
  • Driven with a strong desire to win business and establish long term customer relationships.
  • Team player with excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Travel ~50% within territory, with some trips outside territory.

Nice to Have

  • Customer-facing sales or support experience in the Life Sciences or Genomics.
  • Ph.D. or Masters in Biological Sciences, Genetics, Genomics, or related field.
  • MBA is a plus.

Team & Environment

Works as part of a team of account managers and reports to a District Sales Manager.

  • Base compensation of $98,400 - $147,600.

Work Mode

This is a local-city role based in the Great Lakes region. Key locations include Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Cincinnati, OH; and Louisville, KY.
