Responsibilities
- Act as the subject matter expert on revenue accounting standards including ASC 606 and GAAP, with deep knowledge of diverse business models such as custom product sales, service agreements, and partnerships.
- Analyze complex sales and partnership contracts to determine correct revenue recognition, billing timelines, and disclosure obligations.
- Design, implement, and maintain revenue accounting policies and procedures aligned with regulatory and SOX compliance requirements.
- Produce detailed revenue analyses, technical memos, and responses to inquiries from internal and external auditors.
- Lead monthly and quarterly revenue close activities, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Build and scale a high-performing revenue accounting team to support the needs of a rapidly expanding organization.
- Ensure accurate revenue reporting for both internal management and external financial statements.
- Use data analytics tools to manage and interpret large revenue and receivables datasets, identifying trends and reporting insights to finance leadership.
- Collaborate with commercial teams to understand sales dynamics, structure complex deals, and guide contract terms for compliant revenue treatment.
- Work with billing and collections teams to refine invoicing and receivables workflows for improved accuracy and compliance.
- Partner with IT and business stakeholders to define system requirements and support technology improvements in ERP and CPQ platforms.
- Create performance dashboards and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of sales and revenue operations in coordination with commercial leaders.
- Maintain full ownership of the SOX compliance framework for revenue and accounts receivable processes.
- Continuously improve existing SOX controls and establish new scalable controls as the business enters new markets and launches new offerings.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the SME on all key revenue accounting rules (ASC 606 and GAAP), developing a solid understanding of Twist's diverse business models (e.g., custom products, services, partnership arrangements) to ensure appropriate technical application.
- Review complex contracts and partnership agreements to determine the proper revenue recognition treatment, billing schedule, and disclosure requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Company’s revenue accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and SOX controls.
- Prepare ad-hoc revenue analysis, memos, and respond to both internal and external auditor queries.
- Lead the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness, including preparation and review of revenue journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed flux analysis.
- Develop and scale a high-performing revenue function to meet the knowledge and capability needs of a rapidly growing company.
- Drive the accuracy of revenue reporting for both management (internal) and external reporting purposes.
- Manage and synthesize large datasets related to revenue and receivables using analytical tools to illustrate findings, analyze trends, and report results to finance leadership.
- Partner closely with the Commercial team to understand key sales trends, structure complex transactions, and advise on contract terms to ensure optimal and compliant revenue recognition.
- Collaborate with Billing & Collections to enhance the receivables and invoicing processes, improving accuracy and compliance.
- Work with Information Technology (IT) and other business leaders to define IT solution requirements and participate in initiatives for ongoing process and systems improvements (e.g., ERP, CPQ system enhancements) to increase compliance, integrity, and scalability.
- Develop reporting tools and key performance metrics to measure the success and efficiency of the sales and revenue process in partnership with Commercial leaders.
- Own the SOX compliance framework for the revenue and accounts receivable cycles.
- Enhance current SOX controls and develop new, scalable controls as the Company continues to expand and evolve into new markets and offerings.
